Kidneys are two bean shaped organs which are located at the middle of the backside just below the rib cage. Each kidney consists of about a million tiny structures called Nephrons which helps in filtering blood. Kidneys filter waste products from blood and regulate blood pressure electrolyte balance and red blood cell production in the body.

Kidneys will filter extra water, minerals, nitrogenous waste and extra protein content from blood and forward them to bladder as urine.

Special cells in kidney monitor the oxygen concentration in blood through a hormone called Erythropoietin. If oxygen levels fall Erythropoietin levels rise and body starts to stimulate manufacture of more red blood cells.

Severe Diabetes, prolonged high blood pressure will damage kidneys. Since there are two kidneys both kidneys must be damaged for kidney failure. With one kidney also any human can lead a normal life.

Sudden loss of blood flow to kidneys during heart attack., Liver failure, Dehydration or severe burns, prolonged high blood pressure, Severe diabetics, Anti-inflammatory medication, Problems in urine elimination, Kidney stones, Kidney cancer, Blood clots with in urinary track, Damage to the nerves that controls bladder functions, Drugs and alcohol, Over load of toxins, Multiple myeloma.
